First Flight

This is the low resolution video of the first flight of Cozy MkIV N750CZ

3.8 Meg, no audio

This is the high resolution (relatively speaking):

14.4 Meg, with audio

This footage was shot by clamping a small bogen tripod head to the TB1 bulkhead.  A Cannon DV camcorder was mounted and started just before I taxied out.  The audio would have been better with a lapel mic taped inside the cup of my headset, but I had not heard of that trick yet.

Critique:

This is the first flight (solo) as pilot in command of a Cozy MkIV.  The previous day I was fortunate enough to have done 6 touch and goes in a Three Place Cozy, with two people in the front seat.  Much of the flying characteristics are the same, except that the back force on the elevators on the three place were much higher than on the four place.  I think that experience contributed to the nose bob on takeoff.  When I rotated, it came right up, right now!  Key is, gentle back pressure, let the speed build, then fly it off the runway.

Landing:  I think this pretty much defines a carrier landing.  Used about 1000 feet of runway, I think!  After some discussions with a fellow three place Cozy flyer, I started to fly it onto the runway, rather than the nose high flare.  Others have told me that you can land a Long EZ or Vari EZ nose high, but the Cozy will carrier land when the canard gives up.  If you download the audio version, you can hear the RMI uEncoder beep a couple times just before the nose falls through.  Now, when I hear the beeps, I push forward.  The nose is going to come down anyway!  My latest landings have been faster and smoother.
